What to expect in season 3:“We’re going to see Stiles basically branch out and move on from his crush with Lydia,” says Davis. “He’s decided it’s over and he’s going to be a man now and move on and not pine after a girl who will barely give him the time of day.” Good for him! Except…”let’s just say that romance isn’t easy for him this season,” teases Davis.

We’ve just returned from a Teen Wolf press room at this year’s WonderCon in Anaheim, California, with the Teen Wolf panel moderated by Jim Halterman coming later today. We’ll have some interviews (with video!) up this weekend, but for those hungry for some news from the show, here’s a treat… Dylan O’Brien (Stiles) talks about what interaction he will or won’t have with Derek (Tyler Hoechlin), the character fans often “ship” him with on places like Tumblr, as well as the interaction he will or won’t have with Lydia (Holland Roden).

More specifically, with the character Danny getting a love interest, might that appease the “slash shippers” who want some male-male action on the show?

“You know, they’re not Facebook official,” Dylan teases, before telling us what we can or can’t expect with “Sterek.”

“Yeah. It’s kind of like we’ve fulfilled everyone’s, like, void that apparently the show has [with Danny]. Derek and Stiles are on a little bit of a break. No, I don’t know. We’re not in that many scenes together, for some reason. Our characters still have that rapport, and just because it’s not touched on as much… everything’s so much bigger. Derek’s world grows, Stiles’ world grows, hence they don’t have [as much] time. Even me and Posey don’t have as many scenes as we did together. It’s kind of the case with everybody on the show,” he explains.

Stiles will, however, have a lot of scenes with Lydia.”I’d say, yeah. I’ve been with Holland the most. Not romantically. Stiles kind of shelves that. Obviously he still has feelings for Lydia. It’s not going to go away overnight, or ever. That’s still the underlying thing of the season, but more of the focus is them becoming a team,” he says.

Teen Wolf fans are a patient pack. After all, MTV has conditioned us to wait a full year between seasons, but given how absolutely sensational season two was, it’s easy to understand why the wait for season three has felt particularly painful.

So, with just a little over three months until Teen Wolf rips back onto television, ETonline hit up the set (no, I will not give you the location) to chat with the stars and creator, Jeff Davis. And while you’ll have to wait a little longer to read all our interviews with Dylan O’Brien, Tyler Posey, Holland Roden and some other special guests, I wanted to give you a little taste of what’s to come, so check out five teases from Beacon Hills’ big brain, Jeff Davis!

A Fast “Four”ward When the action resumes, it will have been four months since the deadly events of the season finale, and according to Davis, the time-jump was not planned solely as a result of Colton Haynes exiting the series. “It’s a bit of a reset button,” he tells ETonline. “I don’t want to write the scenes where they’re all struggling to get over the drama, I want to pick back up during the fun. We wanted to start a new story, and we also wanted to come in on the first episode showing changes in all the characters.”

Scott’s New (Mc)Calling “One of the great things about Scott this season is he’s got a new resolve this season,” Davis tells me. “In the first episode, he says to his mom, ‘I’m going to be a better son, a better friend, a better everything.’ He’s trying to become a better person for Allison, so when she comes back to him, he will be the best possible version of himself.”

Decidedly Darker While it’s always scored in the comedy department, Teen Wolf is first and foremost a drama — and in season three, all the characters will have to confront some pretty dark choices. “I think the tone has changed a bit this season — we go pretty dark,” Jeff says. “Episode 6 [titled Motel California] turned out to be one of our darkest episodes. We push the characters to the brink in that episode. It’s our ode to The Shining, but it also deals with the characters coming to very difficult decisions about themselves and their future. What’s interesting is that while it’s much darker, it’s also one of our funniest episodes. We still are able to find the funny in a lot of this drama. It’s like Hitchcock’s Frenzy. That’s one of his darkest movies, but it’s also one of his funniest. It’s a hard balance to find, but I think this season is in keeping with our overall tone.”

Gay Payoff While Teen Wolf fans have been ‘shipping Sterek for two years, an actual gay couple is blossoming this season in Beacon Hills as one of the twin Alphas (played by Charlie and Max Carver) beginsdating Danny (played by Keahu Kahuanui). And according to Jeff, there will be some only-on-cable scenes between the boys. “I can’t say we go to Spartacus levels, but their sex scenes are treated just like any other sex scenes you’ve seen on our show.” Which is the key, in Jeff’s mind, to approaching gay characters on television. “I’ve always thought that if you present this idealized world where younggay men and women are no different from anyone else, and it’s not really questioned by the other characters, maybe life starts to imitate art and you begin to see that in the real world.”

Unlocking the Clues To Derek’s Past By now, all Teen Wolf fans know that season three will feature a flashback episode to Derek’s childhood — but did you know there will also be a second flashback episode this season? “Episode 5 is also a flashback episode — but not in the sense that it flashes back to younger characters, it’s more like Pulp Fiction in the way we bounce around in time,” Davis tells me. “It’s one of our most ambitious episodes ever!”

As creator Liz Meriwether revealed at Monday’s PaleyFest, a flashback episode slated to air in late April will feature the stories of how each of the New Girl gang lost their virginity. In that episode, O’Brien will play Jess’ (Zooey Deschanel) prom date, a gorgeous, romantic, guitar-playing 18-year-old who promises a memorable “first time” for Jess, who wants to lose her virginity to someone special.
